FIVE WAYS
TO WASTE MONEY ON YOUR PORSCHE®
$

1. Not following your manufacturer's schedule.
Better to replace a timing belt on your manufacturer’s schedule than to
have it break in the "middle of nowhere."
2. Replacing tires when you should be replacing shocks.
If your tires are wearing unevenly or peculiarly, your car may be out of alignment
or your shocks or struts worn out.
3. Having squealing brakes turn into a large break job.
Squeal doesn’t necessarily mean you need new rotors or pads; mostly, it’s
just annoying. Your first check is to look at the thickness of the pads. Pads
thicker than a quarter-inch are probably fine. If your brakes emit a constant,
high-pitched whine and the pads are thinner than a quarter-inch, replace them.
If your car shimmies or you feel grinding through the pedal, then your brake
rotors need to be turned or replaced.
4. Not changing the fuel filter.
Have it replaced as a part of your maintenance -- every two years or according
to the manufacturer’s schedule -- rather than when it becomes clogged with
grit, leaving you at the mercy of the nearest garage.
5. Not keeping your tires properly inflated.
Check them once a month; otherwise, you’re wasting gasoline, risking a
blowout and wearing them out more quickly.

TIPS OF THE
MONTH |

Secondary
Intake problems in 993® (96-98)
30k miles and up - Causes: "Stop
and go” driving causes worn
guides, corroded check valve, corroded
check valve console, can clog passages
from worn guides.
Symptoms: Check engine
light, and oil consumption.
Results: Car will not pass emissions, especially in NJ, NY, CT, where states
plug into your ECU.
Overview: SIA (Secondary Air Injection) consist of an electric
air pump, a check valve, a vacuum operated cut off valve, and the piping and
passages to deliver the air to the area of the exhaust valve. The system blows
air into the exhaust right after the exhaust valve, to help burn off any unburned
exhaust, thus lowering emissions, especially when the engine is cold, before
the catalytic converters are warmed up. The air pump is turned on and off by
the ECU. (96-98) 993® have an OBDII (Onboard Diagnostics,
Secondary Generation). This means it has some self-testing ability. In the case
of SAI the ECU turns on the air pump, and then monitors the results of the extra
air on the oxygen sensors. If the O2 Sensor voltage change is not what the ECU
is programmed to like, the ECU sets a code for SAI. There are two codes, one
for each side of the engine. - Mike

964® Cable
Update - All 964® cables
that drive the convertible tops have
been updated to an improved 993® cable.
964® cables
are prone to working their way out
of the drive assembly causing the
roof to get stuck. The updated 993® cables
are longer and cannot work their
way out.

turned to the ON position. Next pull
the parking brake up. Lastly press
the switch to operate the top. (See

Please note: You will not be able
to drive if the roof is not fully
open or closed. Your Owner’s
Manual has details for Power or Manual
Operations for your cab top. -- Bob
