TIPS OF THE

Lights Flicker? Rotten Egg Smell? - Own
a pre-1990 911® Carerra, your car
may have a problem with the alternator
over charging. When it overcharges, it
heats up the battery and the acid starts
spilling out. If this condition goes
undetected, it can cause your front suspension
pan to rust out resulting in expensive
body repair. Symptoms: Lights
flicker due to a bad regulator in the
alternator. And a rotten egg smell from
the battery. Prevention: Repalce
and install an Optima battery, therefore
if the alternator does fail, there is
no acid in the battery to cause a rusted
out pan. -- Brian

Your
944® Won't
Start? Electricals Erratic? - One
tip off it could be for 944's®, 968's® (and
most front engine Porsche's®) is
when water drains under your battery
and down through a rusty hole into your
footwell affecting your computer (aka
- filling it with water). By not keeping
the drains clear of pooling water and
debris, the water mixes with the battery
acids and creates a hole that will allow
water to soak your carpets, and your
computer(s). -- Bob

Alarm
Not Functioning? - The
993® factory radio has metal frame
with a wire that connects to the alarm.
If the factory radio is removed and it
(or an aftermarket radio) is reinstalled
without that wire connected, it trips
the alarm. Symptom: The
light [for the alarm] on top of the door
flickers and the it will not arm the
alarm. -- Brian
