Powertech started out small, but grew fast. Both Keith Peare and Mike Daino were hooked by fixing up and racing old VW bugs. When they met at a track event in 1985, they both owned 914's® and both worked for local Porsche® shops. Coincidentally, they both soon found themselves working at the same Porsche® shop in Morristown, New Jersey. After 4 years - in April of 1991- Keith and Mike decided to open Powertech, in an 800 sq. ft. bay of an old gas station, in Rockaway.
A look back at Powertech history...
The entire staff at Powertech - whether Bob Tonczos, Jim Roca, Mike Carr, Jake Priber, John Cate, Patty Hess, or Shawn Cudnik - is committed to their Porsche® passion. Not only we have experienced technicians, but each actively participates in the Northern New Jersey Region Porsche® Club, for all events. Powertech's customers can be assured of both technical expertise, and a burning desire to advise them of the best solutions for their driving needs. They share a common goal: Porsche® passion and Powertech Service.

   Our Team
Mike Daino - Owner -
Mike has been a motor-head from a very young age. After experiencing his initial addictions to Go-Karts and motorcycles, Mike learned to drive a manual transmission car in a field behind his home. He was only 7 years old and the car was a 1957 Corvette! Growing up with many sports cars in his family, from his father's Corvettes and Jaguars to his mother's Triumph Spitfire, caused Mike to begin a life long passion for the best of the best, the Porsche®. Today Mike has owned over a dozen different types of Porsche's® and campaigned a 996® Carrera in past PCA events.

Keith Peare - Owner/Technician -
Keith started with VW's in 1971 and began drag racing at Englishtown. He bought his first Porsche®, a 1972 914® 1.7 in 1978. In 1983 he began working as a Porsche® mechanic in a Porsche®/Volkswagen shop. That same year, Keith started to participate in track events with PCA. Then in 1987, he began to work in a different Porsche® shop with Mike Daino called, Promotion Motorsports in Morristown. By 1988, Keith built an E Production 914® to participate in the SCCA. He ran it in the SCCA till 1992, and within those 4 years, he went to the SCCA Runoffs 4 times.
In the year of '92, Keith finally won the Northeast National Division. In 1991, Keith and Mike Daino opened the doors to Powertech in Rockaway while starting to race in the PCA racing events. Keith is now currently converting his 914® back to the SCCA F Production specs to try to win the Runoffs at Mid Ohio in 2005.

Shawn Cudnik - Director of Pre-Owned Sales - POWERTECH SELECT MOTORCARS
Shawn’s fascination with cars started a very young age. He took interest in his father’s hobby of buying and selling cars including Corvettes, SuperBees, GTOs, and even a 1973 Chevy Luv Pickup with a 350 engine crammed in it! This resulted in Shawn spending much of his childhood at the DMV. In fact, his earliest memory as a child was when he burned his leg on the sidepipe of his father’s 1969 Corvette Convertible.
His passion for sports cars (particularly European ones) grew with each car magazine he read. In the summer before his sophomore year in college, Shawn worked at a pre-owned exotic dealership in Port Jefferson, NY called MotorSport. It was there that Shawn drove his first Porsche®, a Black on Black 1987 911® coupe. That was when he realized that he needed to have a 911®. About 10 years later his dream came true when he bought his first Porsche, a 1989 911® Turbo. He has since sold it and now drives a 1991 911® turbo and has recently begun to experience the addiction of PCA Driver Ed events.

Mike Carr - Senior Technician -
Mike Carr bought his first Porsche®, a 914-4®, in 1977 and joined the PCA. He also owned a 924-S® in 2001 and 2002 and has an original 914-6®. He has been an instructor since 1981 and now remains a chief instructor since 1993. In 1986 Mike had won the division of the Porsche® Parade Concours in Portland and was a Firehawk crew member. He then became a Firehawk crew chief in 1987. Mike has a mechanic history with Autohaus and Performance Plus.

Bob Tonczos - Senior Technician -
Bob's first Porsche® was in the summer of 1996 as a 1975 914®. Then in August of 1999, he owned a 1985 944®. Bob had won 3 autocross's in 1997, then joined PCA in June of 1998. He then became an autocross season champ in '98 as a Rookie with his 914® 1.8, then a veteran in '99, a veteran in 2000 with his 944®, and a veteran in '01 with a 914® 2.0L.
His first Driver's Ed experience was at Lime Rock in 1997, and then became a Driver's Ed Tech Chairman for 2001 and 2002. Then in April of 2004 he became a PCA Instructor.

Jim Roca - Manager -
Jim started his career in driving in 1984. He was doing Autocross with the Hudson Valley Region of SCCA.. At that time Jim was autocrossing almost every weekend with 2 Toyota Supra's. In 1987 he was asked to join EMRA and run in their Autocross and track events. Jim also took a 2 day Skip Barber Course at Bridgehampton that year.
He then continued to run with SCCA and EMRA and in 1988 started to run Metro NY Region Porsche® Autocross Events in a Mustang GT. In 1990 Jim earned his Time Trial and Racing License (#423) and continued to run tracks in the Northeast and Autocross with all 3 clubs in different locations with his Mustang. Jim purchased his current 944® that year and in 1994 moved from NY to NJ and joined the NNJR to Autocross with them. Jim stopped running track events that year as his career had him traveling more and more. Jim still runs as many Autocrosses as he can with NNJR, and hopefully will do a few M Club and SCCA events this year.

Jake Priber - Service Representative and Parts Manager -

Jake graduated from Lincoln Tech with a degree in Automotive Technology. He has been a member of the Powertech staff for the past 6 years. Jake has been active in the Porsche club for the past 5 years. Over the past 2 years. He has made a number of Improvements to his 944 including a complete engine rebuild and Suspension for the up coming Autocross and track Season .

In his free time you will find Jake working on his 944® in preparation of track and autocross events.

Patty Hess - Administrative Manager -
Patty grew up in a family that loved cars; it was Corvettes for her parents and brothers in the 50's and 60's. A '57 Aqua with silver panels, '59 Cherry Red, '59 Metallic Blue with silver panels, and a '63 Fastback split window. In the late 60's she was part of the British Sports Car craze and participated in the SOP Rallies in the Princeton area with a Triumph MK3.
In the 70's it was Volkswagen bugs and dashers. She has always loved cars. Mike Daino says she drives all cars like a sports car, but did not own her own Porsche®; a 924s®; until June 2002. That was when she discovered for herself what the true meaning of the word "performance" really meant. "I bought it for my husband as a gift," she says, "not for myself." Yeah Patty, right!

Penny - Shop Dog -
* * SNIFF * * SNIFF * * SNIFF * * SNIFF * * Penny is Powertech's shop dog. She arrives most mornings with her owner Mike Daino. Penny likes to eat, sleep, play, sniff, sleep, play, eat, sniff, eat, sleep, play, sniff, sleep, play, eat, sniff, eat, sleep, play, sniff, sleep, play, eat, sniff, eat, sleep, play, sniff, sleep, play, eat, and sniff. But mostly she sleeps all day, and snores really loud.
